The role of the Community Economic Development Officer (CEDO) is to facilitate, promote and ensure community and economic development in order to secure opportunities for economic and business development, and to increase local employment.

Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the CEDO facilitates community and economic development planning and initiatives.  The CEDO assists local organizations, businesses and individuals with establishing economic development plans and projects, sources funding, and promotes the community in order to expand economic development opportunities. 

A typical workweek would include working on small business development, providing assistance with applications and compliance, maintaining business registries, interacting with the business community, liasoning with the government and not for profits, meeting with committees, working on projects and writing proposals and reports.

The ideal candidate would have post-secondary education in Community Economic Development, Business Administration or a related field.  Minimum two years work experience in community economic development, marketing or public relations is essential for this position.

This role requies an organized self-starter with excellent time management and prioritizing skills in order to effectively multi-task the demands of this position.

In addition, a CEDO must have exceptional communication skills both verbally and in writing and have experience and confidence to present, neogiate and mediate.

Working knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft Office, as well as, experience with budgets and writing reports is also needed.

Assets include the ability to speak and write in both Inuktitut and or French, and having northern experience. 

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.
