INTERNAL/EXTERNAL - EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Emergency Medical Technician/Lieutenant

Under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief, the incumbent is responsible for Fire/Rescue Response, Pre-hospital Emergency Care and supervising on duty Firefighters. Supervisory shift functions include ensuring functions are carried out as per departmental SOGs, overseeing shift equipment maintenance, performing supervisory health and safety duties and other directives.  The incumbent will also assist in training, fire prevention, public education, fire inspections and administrative tasks as assigned.  The incumbent will also perform incident command duties at fire/EMS incidents as required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • IFSAC certified Firefighter Level II (must be obtained within 3 months of employment)
  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification
  • Minimum of 2 years FF/EMR experience 
  • Current CPR Level C
  • Valid Class 3 with Airbrakes
  • Criminal Reference Check from the RCMP or Local Police.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Primary Care Paramedic
  • Fire Officer 1
  • IFSAC 1041 I Fire Service Instructor
  • IFSAC certified 1002 Driver/Operator

Please provide a copy of ALL the certificates listed above and a copy of your grade 12 diploma with your application.  Also please include a copy of your class 3 drivers’ license & proof of airbrakes endorsement, along with a copy of your criminal reference check.  Applicants that do not provide this certification will NOT be considered for this competition. 

The successful candidate must possess good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under stressful and emergency situations.  The successful candidate is also required to work shift work, including the week-ends. The ability to communication in English and Inuktitut or French is a definite asset.

The Annual Salary for this position is $70,368.93 plus an annual Settlement Allowance of $20,907.43 and an excellent benefits package.
