CITY THANKS GOVERNMENT OF CANADA FOR CONTRIBUTION TO HELP CELEBRATE CANADA 150
JUNE 19, 2017 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) - the City is pleased to announce funding support from the Government of Canada to help Iqaluit celebrate Canada’s 150th year.
Through a $150,000 commitment from the Government of Canada, this year’s celebrations in Nunavut’s capital city will help to show-case Iqaluit’s rich culture and talented performers to residents, and the rest of Canada. The festivities begin on June 21st, for National Aboriginal Day, include functions on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day on June 24th, and culminate on July 1st where several events will help the City celebrate Canada’s very special birthday.
“In this momentous Canada 150 year, celebrations will highlight what makes our country so unique, diverse and vibrant. I invite all people of Iqaluit to take part in the activities on June 21, June 24 and July 1,” said the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.” Take advantage of this unique opportunity to celebrate this milestone with your family, friends and neighbours.”
In addition to performing for Iqalummiut, this year’s Canada Day festivities will be broadcast coast to coast, as part of CBC’s special broadcast of this historic occasion. Iqaluit is one of 14 cities that will be included in a national broadcast for July 1ST, which will highlight Canada’s rich tapestry of talent, culture and incredible natural beauty.
Additional information on all activities for Iqaluit, leading up to and including Canada Day, will be announced soon, once schedules have been confirmed.
