CHECK TO SEE IF A BURN PERMIT IS REQUIRED
JULY 5, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – The City would like to remind residents that a burn permit is not required to cook food or to heat beverages by using a traditional, or “heather” fire, a bar-b-que, or a Coleman stove.
However, permits are required for camp fires. Also, a reminder that camp fires must be 30 meters or 100 feet from a building, and only untreated wood can be used.
Permits must be obtained for burning combustible materials within the City boundaries. Materials that can be burned include: hand-piled rubbish; machine-piled rubbish; yard clean-up/debris; construction material; and wood crates.
To obtain a permit – which are free – residents are required to go to the Fire Station, complete an application, and have the form signed by a member of the Fire Department. For additional information, please contact Dispatch at 979.5650.
The City thanks you for your support and understanding.
