FIRE HALL OPEN HOUSE SATURDAY OCTOBER 14TH
OCTOBER 10, 2017 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – As part of Fire Prevention Week, the City is pleased to announce that the Fire Hall will be holding an open house Saturday, October 14th, from 4 PM to 7 PM, at the fire station located by City Hall. Residents are invited to tour the Fire Hall; examine a fire truck up close; see a demonstration of a “live burn” where a living room will be set on fire; practice their skills in using a fire extinguisher to put out a fire, as well as enjoy a barbeque.

This year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week, “Every Second Counts – Know 2 ways out”, is a reminder to have escape plans in case of a fire. Ensure that family members have at least two adequate escape plans from each room to the outside, and to practice the escape plans at least twice per year – once during the day and once after dark. In addition, children should also be shown how to escape on their own. And finally, remember to close doors behind you when you leave a room during an escape, and to never re-enter a burning house – once outside, stay outside.
