City Invites Input on Sewer Infrastructure Upgrade Project
March 3, 2022 – Iqaluit, Nunavut

The City of Iqaluit invites residents’ input into projects, policies and initiatives that grow our community and prepare our city for the future. The City is currently looking for interested residents to join a stakeholder engagement group for a sewer upgrade project in the Core Area.

This project will directly affect residents of Iqaluit and businesses in the Core Area along Mivvik Street (from Federal Road) and Allanngua Street, to Akilliq Drive. Construction is expected to take place from July to November 2022.

The City of Iqaluit recently completed a capacity assessment of its existing sanitary sewer infrastructure and identified that the sewer system in the above mentioned area area is currently operating above capacity. There will be a need to upgrade this infrastructure in order to accommodate current and future projected sanitary flows, based on anticipated growth for the municipality.

To share project information and ensure that the City addresses any concerns residents and businesses may have, we are inviting you to take part in a stakeholder engagement process ahead of construction. Topics for discussion may include parking, pedestrian safety, disruption to water and sewage service, and road closures.

We invite residents and business owners to take part in the stakeholder engagement group, which will involve participation in meetings between April to July 2022. To confirm your membership, please write your interest to Cameron McDonald by April 6, 2022.
